Marcellus Shale Dangers to Be Documented

Evolve has been working with  Protecting Our Waters and local officials to document the environmental hazards associated with Marcellus Shale drilling. Stay tuned for important City Council hearings this Fall when the Joint Committees on Transportation and Public Utilities and the Environment will investigate the economic and environmental impacts that hydraulic drilling of Marcellus Shale will on Philadelphia and the surrounding region.

The 'HYDRA' Does Philly

The world's first solar hydrogen powered water purification plant and community energy station visited Philadelphia during the Summer solstice. EvolveStrategies partnered with the Fairmount Waterworks Interpretive Center to produce The HYDRA's first water purification demonstration in Philadelphia. The HYDRA proved its abilities by cleaning muddy Schuylkill River water into pure drinking water in front of elected officials, including Congressman Chaka Fattah and Councilman Curtis Jones, city officials, the media, and the public.
The backdrop for the demonstrationhydrafairmount was the famous Fairmount Water Works. For more than a century, the Water Works supplied Philadelphia with water pumped from the Schuylkill River so it was only fitting to bring new state of the art water purification to this scenic spot.  Watch the NBC10 News clip here!

Two weeks later, The HYDRA was back with water cleaning demonstrations at both The Academy of Natural Sciences and The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Co-inventors Brad Carlson and Mike Strizki of The Essential Element  presented  at the Academy to the new  Urban Sustainability Caucus, led by State Representative Vanessa Brown. Later in the afternoon, The HYDRA went around the corner to the The Franklin Institute's Earth Fair. Despite rain throughout the day, the Hydra worked flawlessly and showed dozens of museum goers how solar hydrogen energy can be a key component of the fossil fuel free economy.

Bikecabs Allowed to Roll onto the Streets of Philadelphia at Night

Fourth of July Weekend marked an important milestone for Bikecabs and the new Evolve-inspired Philly Bikecab Alliance. For the first time, Bikecabs were permitted to operate at night. After a successful holiday weekend, the Philadelphia Streets department announced that the Bike Cabs will now be allowed to operate until 2am 7 days a week and have opened up more streets for Bike Cabs to operate. Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown, the sponsor of the Bike Cab legislation continues to a strong supporter of this green transportation alternative.  Read the recent WHYY article about Bike Cabs here.

LED Streetlights Can Save City Millions

Like many US Cities, Philadelphia spends millions on energy for street lights.  By using 50-70% less energy and lasting 2-3 longer, new light emitting diode (LED) streetlights can save the City millions in reduced energy and street light replacement costs.

Evolve is working with Anaconda Enterprises, LLC, which has an exclusive distributorship for the assembly and distribution of IntenCity LED lighting fixtures. Anaconda testified at a City Council Hearing in June and expressed an interest in manufacturing LED streetlights in and for Philadelphia. Read more about the fight for LED streetlights in Philly here.

Cities such as Allentown, Pittsburgh, Ann Arbor, and Wilmington are also considering implementation of LED streetlights.

Keep and eye out for a pilot where IntenCity lights will be installed at City Hall in the Fall.
New Book on Cell Phone Safety

In her explosive new book Disconnect, Dr. Devra Davis pulls back the curtain on the dangers of cell phone use and reveals how the multi-trillion dollar industry has tried to cover it up, and how it potentially will harm us all.

Evolve Strategies is helping promote Disconnect to social media sites and working with elected officials to develop warning label legislation.

Disconnect will be released September 23rd, but is available for Amazon pre-order now.  You can also download the first chapter of her book from the Environmental Health Trust website.
