Vanessa Brown, a West Philadelphia Community activist is one step closer to becoming the State Representative for the 190th PA district, which covers parts of West Philadelphia and North Philadelphia. Vanessa received more than 11,000 votes in the April 22nd Democratic Primary, while State Representative Thomas Blackwell received just 1,000 write-in votes. Blackwell, the son of the late Lucian Blackwell and stepson to City Councilwoman Janie Blackwell, was removed from the ballot after the Courts ruled that most of his petition signatures were invalid.
Vanessa has a great story and will be a great State Representative. Evolve is helping Vanessa as she prepares for the Fall Campaign. Check out this Evolve produced movie and support Vanessa here.
The hottest ticket in London last week was to see George Soros return to his alma mater to discuss his new book, The New Paradigm for Financial Markets: The Credit Crisis and What it Means.
Thanks to Internet technology, the sold-out event was streamed live and is now available for viewing at GeorgeSoros.com. Evolve is promoting Soros' timely book through a combination of email messaging and Google AdWords.
Renewable Energy International (REI), has part of the answer to reducing our dependence on oil and greenhouse gas emissions. Their solution? Use renewable technologies to generate and store hydrogen energy at the site where it will be used, creating no emissions in the process.
REI's founder, Mike Strizki, created the first solar hydrogen home in Hopewell NJ and recently obtained the necessary international building approvals to construct a renewable hydrogen home energy system in the Cayman Islands. Unlike most hydrogen fuel cell systems, this one is powered by solely by renewable solar and wind energy, making it the cleanest hydrogen generation system in the world. Evolve is creating a new website at RenewablePowerNow.com to spread the word about this inspiring and hopeful technology.
Transit police aren't getting a fair shake. That's the word from Anthony Ingargiola, EvolveStrategies Vice President, and spokesperson for the 198 member Fraternal Order of Transit Police. At issue are compensation and benefits discrepancies between other area law enforcement agencies and those who work for Philadelphia's transit agency, SEPTA. The force, the fourth largest in the state, has been working without a new contract for more than 30 months, essentially freezing wages at 2005 levels. While the FOTP hopes to settle their differences with SEPTA without a strike, they won't rule out the possibility. Evolve is working with the FOTP to present their case to the media and the riding public.
With record turnout projected and the problems experienced in the primaries, voter advocates have real concerns about the integrity of our nation's election systems. Evolve has been working with a growing network of voter protection groups to make new tools available to safeguard democracy. The VoterStory.org web widget is engineered to collect and classify voter complaints in real time across the Internet and provides a data feed of complaints that can be addressed in real time by voter protection groups who partner with VoterStory.
In the PA Primary, Evolve worked with a coalition of groups including 1-866-MyVote1, VoterAction.org, NAACP National Voter Fund, the PA League of Women Voters and the Committee of Seventy. Placed on a variety of websites and blogs, the VoterStory widget collected stories of voting machine problems and other issues. In the wake of the reported problems, lawyers from the Advancement Project, Drinker Biddle and VoterAction.org went to court to mandate that the Philadelphia Board of Elections make emergency provisional ballots available across Philadelphia.
The widget is now available for any group or individual who wants to put voter protection functionality on their website, blog or FaceBook page. Any organization planning to provide Election Day voter protection assistance or resources in the fall is invited to sign up to be a VoterStory.org partner.
Evolve is always interested in taking on a new cause or candidate so feel free to contact us to discuss how new media or network strategies can help your campaign or advocacy efforts.
