Wiki Powers Debate about Women's Issues
WomenMatter, an Internet education and information service that provides
research-based analysis of national issues affecting American women
asked Evolve Strategies to create a wiki which would provide visitors
to the site the opportunity to contribute to the organization's public
policy development by addressing issues such as health care as well
as sharing their personal experiences with the American health care
system.

Wikis Wiring Reform
Wiki not only means “fast” in Hawaiian, its namesake software is quickly becoming a platform for facilitating community and civic discussions. According to the most famous Wiki Wikipedia, a wiki is a collaborative web site which can be directly edited by anyone with access to it. Web pioneer Ward Cunningham remembered the “wiki wiki” Honolulu airport bus when deciding what to call his innovative web page publishing tool back in 1995.
Wikis Work for Your Issues
Evolve is developing “wikis” to help organizations tap the experiences and ideas of web visitors and the results are impressive. Evolve recently produced www.womenmatterwiki.com to help collect stories from women about health care and is using wiki pages to generate policy recommendations that the group can ultimately provide to elected officials.
Wikis Are Your Friend
During the recent Philadelphia municipal elections, a wiki on ReformBallot.org allowed any Philadelphia voter the opportunity to suggest specific ideas for reforming city government. Dozens of ideas flowed onto the wiki from all corners of the city and after an online vote, the top 24 reform agenda items were presented to the candidates running for Mayor and City Council. The site then generated a “ballot” of where every candidate stood of each of the agenda items for voters before the May 15th election.
